Nonna knows best!

Lucky us, we are always tasting new products. Of course, the ones we recommend compose the Food411 directory. We become very attached to a few and those products will make it into this blog or one of our “features” such as Editor’s Pick.
Our recent tasting of Dolce Nonna’s real pickled vegetables made us want to spread the word quickly! What makes these different from the many pickled vegetables on the supermarket shelves? They are all natural – no additives! They use only the top quality seasonal ingredients to produced this old world Italian goodness. Gisella Civale recognized the importance of preserving the time honored way of life her nonna (grandma) had demonstrated. Using her grandma’s original recipes she has created Dolce Nonna gourmet vegetable products. We sampled the Pickled eggplant, Pickled String Beans & Peppers. Having jars of these in your pantry leads to so many possibilities. Instant antipasti; terrific side dish; create a multitude of panini; mix into pasta; top pizza or flat bread or crostini. A unique way to top any meats or fish after cooking. Tangy and delicious – they deserve space in your pantry!

Yes it’s me, 411’s resident chef. I couldn’t resist commenting on this one. In fact, funny thing is that just a few hours ago I was telling a friend about making pickled eggplant with my mother when I was a girl. Any time we (or my 3 brothers) were hungry we’d find a jar of it in the pantry and fork a few delicious strands of it on some fresh bread…yummmm. It was so good you could easily make a meal of it and be completely content. It’s the kind of thing you have to experience–for certainly it’s appearance gives no clue to it’s heavenly taste. I have a wonderful recipe for anyone who would like to make their own. Let me know. And if pickling isn’t your thing, Dolce Nonna’s sounds great. Food 411 is absolutely right, pickled vegetables have so many uses.
Chef Silvia I saw your recipe for pickled eggplant posted. It’s ironic how similar it is to ours! Dolce Nonna’s Marinated Eggplants are becoming a huge hit with all different nationalities. I couldn’t agree with you more, their appearance is certainly deceiving! One bite and anyone will be hooked.
